Things that make me happy

Why happy?

Everyone wants to be happy. We all know this. But being happy depends on numerous things around us.

If someone shouts at you in the morning, finding happiness on that day would not be easier than you think.

Every moment you search for happiness, it goes beyond struggling with your problems. When you are pursuing happiness, you often run in the opposite direction.

There is a tale named “The Rich Man and The Fisherman” where the businessman advises the fisherman to spend more time on the coast so he can catch more fish and buy a bigger boat.

He explains everything in detail on how to increase revenue, create a company, run expanding enterprise, announce an IPO sell company stock to the public, and become rich.

Ironically, the person who achieved great success after all those steps is the same as the current life of the fisherman.

What does it mean to be Happy?

According to the research, happiness varies across time and cultures. The word itself commonly means mental and emotional states of satisfaction, well being, and feeling of intense joy.

In short, happiness is a positive emotional state.

One interesting question in psychology is “Which is better? Happy Nation or Happy Person?”. In other words, public happiness or self-happiness?

If we assume that happiness is related to circumstances of individual positive satisfaction, the answer clearly is a happy nation.

There is a decrease in the percentage of people who answered a happy nation should be prioritized. Because now we live in a capitalist economy where individuals or companies own capital goods.

It means we love the way that we are individually happy.

What about me?

I often meditate especially when I feel bad. It clears the mind and helps me to focus on only important things.

A mobile application that I used to take tutorials for meditating is called “headspace”. It suggests a program depending on the situation you are involved in. For example, there are different meditation programs for stress, anxiety, sleep as well as waking up.

The truth about happiness which I strongly believe is that forgiving someone for his mistake apart from his occasional lapse. Everyone makes mistakes in some way. Also, there is no unforgivable fault in the world.

Living in the present is another easy way to be happy. Worrying about the future and feeling guilty for the past are great examples of killjoys. You cannot change anything about either past or future. So there is no need for worrying.

Overall, chasing happiness makes you unhappy. Once Confucius said, “Life is very simple. But only we make it complicated.”

We do not have to wish things which we will never wish us.
